Basye, Virginia A new Virginia, not-for-profit corporation was announced here this week. The new corporation is Global Population Education, Inc (GPE), operating out of Basye, VA and headed by Werner Fornos. Click here to view the certificate of incorporation. The corporation, according to Fornos, will seek to create awareness and develop leadership in the very comprehensive area of world overpopulation and as it affects environmental problems, resource shortages, and societal problems. The world is now at 6.6 billion people and is predicted to exceed 9 billion by the year 2050. But with news reports out of Europe and Japan of declining populations, and reports of schemes to increase fertility in France, Germany and Norway, among others, our attention has been diverted from the global problem. Hidden by this diversion are that of the 80 million people added to the earths population last year, 99 percent of the increase occurred in the poorest countries of the world, countries already terribly torn by civil strife, social unrest and where all too many people live in brutal poverty. The new corporation has laid out for itself an ambition two-year, $250,000 plan to focus public attention on the problems associated with overpopulation, including ten international events and ten regional speaking tours in the United States. The first international event is a conference organized by Global Population Education in Croatia, October 20 28 of this year. Already representatives from 20 countries have registered for the conference and there are 20 additional spaces available. Concerned individuals who would like to participate should contact Werner Fornos or Moyne Gross concerning itinerary, content and costs. The first regional foray in the United State is slated for the Northwest and will be launched with a presentation at California State University, Chico, California on November 1st. The organization has a formidable board of directors, chaired by Joyce W. Cramer, Davidsonville, MD and Penelope Wood, Secretary, Carmel Valley, CA. Other board members are Werner Fornos, President; Victor Morgan, San Jose, Costa Rica; Rahul Singh, Bombay, India; and Richard Kellerman, St. Petersburg, FL. The corporation will be financed through private, foundation and corporate donations. All donations are tax deductible. The Global Population Education was certified by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501c3 tax-exempt organization on August 3, 2007.
